Situated in the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Tumbler Ridge will entice you with its abundance of opportunities for outdoor adventure! Sitting amidst lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and wilderness settings, the town offers unlimited outdoor recreation. Dozens of magnificent waterfalls are all within hiking distance from their respective trailheads. Home of the majestic 60m Kinuseo Falls, the famous dinosaur track ways, and hundreds of dinosaur bone discoveries, our attractions are bound to leave a lasting impression.
Tumbler Ridge was built to house workers of the Northeast Coal Project and was incorporated in 1981. This makes us one of the newest communities in Canada. Our roots are buried deeply in the coal industry but newer finds in Oil & Gas and Tourism keep our livelyhoods multi-faceted.
A network of 37 developed recreational trails within our region all have trail guides, maps, and descriptions available. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy our many hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and ATV trails. Other outdoor activities include: horseback riding, canoeing, bird watching, golfing, hunting, fishing, river boating, and camping at one of our in-town, Provincial, or forestry campsites. Tumbler Ridge is home to the world’s toughest and most beautiful half marathons-the Emperor’s Challenge. With an elevation gain of 2331 feet are you ready to “rise to the challenge”?
Numerous fossil and dinosaur footprints and bones have been found in the Tumbler Ridge area. We are proud to say that we have some of the oldest dinosaur material found in Western Canada dating back as far as 97 million years ago! We also have BC’s longest accessible track way and one of the largest collections of dinosaur footprints in British Columbia-one rock alone houses 171 tracks! Two guided, interpretive Dinosaur Track Way Tours are offered daily during the summer months by the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation.
Tumbler Ridge puts on one the greatest music festivals in British Columbia every August Long Weekend. Grizfest is sure to entertain everyone in your family, from the smallest of children right up to the young at heart. Come for the music, stay for the adventure!
Monkman and Gwillim Provincial Parks are both within a short drive of town. Bullmoose Marshes is a favourite bird viewing area with two boardwalks to take you out right over the water. You are bound to see or hear upwards of 30 species in one day alone.
An extensive network of track set cross-country ski trails, maintained by the Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society, wind along the Murray River, past the golf course, to the Lost Haven Cabin. Over 300 kilometres of alpine snowmobiling trails are favoured by riders from all over the West. Tumbler Ridge is truly a winter wonderland for snow seekers!
